Biography
I grew up in New Zealand, and have spent time in Australia, Britain, Asia, South America, Europe and the Middle East. I’ve always been fascinated by travel and enjoyed reading about far-off places and distant times. For me, the words "to wander" and "to wonder" have always had a magical attraction. I’ve always considered myself a nomad, and no sooner have I arrived somewhere, than I think about where to next?
I’ve lived and worked in, amongst other places, various parts of New Zealand, Australia, Britain, Europe and the Middle East. In Asia, the most fascinating of all, I've worked in Cambodia and Korea.
I’ve never had a formal career as such. At various times I’ve worked as a kitchen hand, postal worker, driver, labourer, historical researcher, mine worker, and teacher. More recently, I’ve held advisory roles with government and NGOs. Somewhere in amongst all that I spent time at university where I read history and later, international relations.
I’ve always had a keen interest in world and current events, and like reading, music and film. My late grandfather passed on to me his love of football, the beautiful game.
There is no destination, the journey is everything.
